The New York Times published a look behind the creation of the Nook.

Inside the great publishing houses — grand names like Macmillan, Penguin and Random House — there is a sense of unease about the long-term fate of Barnes & Noble, the last major bookstore chain standing.

The story points to a DigiTimes report entitled IC solution vendors landing more orders for entry-level smartphones and tablet PCs.

This is the line from TechCrunch:

The latest news out of the Chinese manufacturing scene is that Amazon, like others, are opting for a low-cost touchscreen panel only capable of two-finger multitouch.

This is the line from DigiTimes:

For touch-panel solutions, two-finger solutions, instead of 10-finger ones, are sufficient for entry-level smartphones, noted the sources, adding that many smartphones and tablet PCs launched recently in China and emerging markets, as well as the tablets to be launched by Amazon, all adopted two-finger solutions.

Let’s hope we get more details as the launch comes closer!
